Trakt scrobbling automatically records everything you watch in Stremio to your Trakt.tv account — movies, episodes, progress, and history. It’s the backbone of a personalized streaming setup, and Stremio supports it natively. This guide shows you how to enable it and fix it when it stops working.

What Is Scrobbling?

Scrobbling is the automatic recording of your playback activity. When you watch a movie or episode in Stremio with scrobbling enabled, Stremio reports it to Trakt.tv. Over time you build a complete watch history that powers:

  • Watch progress synced across all your devices
  • Trakt catalogs in Stremio (History, Watchlist, Recommendations)
  • Recommendations based on what you actually finish

How to Enable Trakt Scrobbling in Stremio

Scrobbling is enabled from the Stremio website, not the app:

  1. Open https://www.stremio.com/acc-settings in your browser.
  2. Go to the Integrations tab.
  3. Find Trakt Scrobbling and click Authenticate.
  4. Log in to your Trakt account and approve the connection.

Once authenticated, Stremio also installs the Trakt Integration add-on, which brings your watchlist, history, and recommendations into the Discover screen as catalog rows.

Tip: Need to bring your Trakt history into Stremio? The Stremio dashboard has an Import button for Trakt that imports your entire history into your Stremio library (usable once every 24 hours).

What Gets Scrobbled

  • Movies you start or finish
  • TV show episodes (including partial progress)
  • Watch progress percentage (so you can resume on any device)
  • Removal from your Trakt watchlist as you watch items

By default there can be a delay of up to 30 seconds for playback events to show up on the Trakt website.

How to Check It’s Working

  1. Play any movie or episode in Stremio for a few minutes.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds, then open https://trakt.tv.
  3. Go to your Profile → History and confirm the title appears.

If the title shows up, scrobbling is working correctly.

Fixing Trakt Scrobbling When It Doesn’t Work

  • Re-authenticate. Open https://www.stremio.com/acc-settings → Integrations, revoke and re-authenticate Trakt. Expired tokens are the #1 cause.
  • Check playback events. Scrobbling only triggers when Stremio records playback events — titles played through external players may not always scrobble.
  • Reinstall the Trakt Integration add-on. Remove it from My Add-ons and let it reinstall after re-authenticating.
  • Clear the cache. In Stremio, go to Settings → Clear Cache and restart the app.
  • Confirm you’re logged in with the same account everywhere (app, website, and Trakt).
